Jose & Lydia's Engagement | Brooklyn Heights & Forest Hills, NY

Being a portrait photographer lends insight into the relational dynamics that brings couples together. It is a constant challenge to use those few precious hours you have with them to assess, embrace, direct, and interpret a relationship through the photography. I've been trying to push myself more in developing my style of portraiture from polemic influences of photographers like Max Wanger and Jose Villa. It's a humbling process of showing your work publicly and openly receiving critique in capture, pose, and post-processing. It's been an awesome journey of learning from others and building up a body of work that brings out the beauty in the stories of your subjects.

Jose and Lydia are a wonderful couple that got in touch with me through a few friends. They have this deep unspoken love and respect for one another. Many couples love to talk about one another during our session, but Jose and Lydia have this peaceful understanding that requires few words. They just plain love each other!

We took a trip out to Brooklyn Heights and the new Brooklyn Bridge Park, and ended the night on Austin Street in Forest Hills, Queens. Congratulations you two. Here's a few of my favorite!
